Description

"The people of Caranthir fortified the mountains to the east of Maglor's Gap. There Mount Rerir, and about it many lesser heights, stood out from the main range of Ered Lindon westward; and in the angle between Rerir and Ered Lindon there was a lake, shadowed by mountains on all sides save the south. That was Lake Helevorn, deep and dark, and beside it Caranthir had his abode."

So here you can see another of the great dwellings of Middle-earth. It is quite an old piece which I started some two years ago and for a very long time it remained in almost-finished state.
Name of this place is nowhere specifically given, but I assume that it must have been quite important castle as the seat of one of the seven sons of Feanor and the principial settlement of Thargelion. Also it has quite an interesting location on the shores of lake Helevorn.

If you like my Tolkien-related art, look at my related journal or gallery folder.
But you can find even more of my pictures on my website Angrenost.cz. It's in Czech, but you can still look over the gallery of illustrations. Enjoy! :-)

It is my favourite from your noldorin fortresses pictures. Just the best in style and creativity. I like how it is like a fortress, a castle, on the rocky shore, among tall mountains, severe yet beautiful. It suits Morifinwe called Caranthir the Dark by lesser elves. I see a typical noldorin features in design of towers, tall rounded tops with tall windows under them. Although there are also spiky towers, like this one added to the central royal hall, which gives to it a gothic cathedrall look. Also I likw how the citadele is separated by a water from the rest of the castle. My fav here are probably towers who grow straight from the mountain side. It gives to it this organic feel. They reminds me of some mushrooms, which are similarly shaped.

Maybe towers with spiky tops were feanorian features?
